All I did was just extract the models from Mass Effect's PC assets, bring them into 3ds Max, throw their textures on them, and then I moved them around to pose them.

(The models and all of their assets belong to BioWare.)

I'm always somewhat confused about Grunt's size. He's supposed to be big for a Krogan, and all the scenes with just him and Shepard make him look really big. But if you look at him in the character lineup he's not that big... maybe I need a little perspective here.
